As presented by: Lexi Reed Holtum, Executive Director and lobbyist of the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation, has been with the foundation since its inception. Lexi was instrumental in the passage of Steve's Law and the 2015 appropriation enabling first responders to have the resources they need to implement the law. She is also responsible for the creation of the foundations Overdose Prevention Program and for fostering partnerships within hospitals, treatment and sober living facilities, and communities in order to reduce opioid overdose deaths. In addition to the contributions Lexi makes in the state of Minnesota she is also a sought out speaker and advocate federally. Lexi's testimonies in Washington DC offer necessary perspective to agencies like the CDC, FBI, DEA and FDA in order to push for necessary changes to our country's current prescribing practices, treatment of addiction, and available resource. Lexi is a person in long-term recovery from the disease of addiction, she is the proud mother of one child, and she was Steve Rummler's fiancé.
Part 2:Josh Esmay will provide a legislative update on the recent changes to Minnesota's Drug Sentencing Laws.
Josh joined the Legal Rights Center in 2016 after serving as the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for the Council on Crime and Justice. He specializes in helping individuals overcome the burdens of criminal records, as well as training others (e.g. employers, community, and criminal justice personnel) about -- and leading policy advocacy efforts regarding -- the disparate impacts which result from criminal records. Josh graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School after which he began his career practicing in the Ramsey County Public Defender’s office. He was past-president of the Minnesota Community Corrections Association, and currently serves as co-chair of the Second Chance Coalition.
