Fundamentals of Resiliency; you may have noticed that when the same challenge or difficulty strikes two different people, one person will cope with it stronger than ever, while the other is much worse for wear. What makes the difference between thriving and barely surviving? There have been lots of studies aimed at answering that question. What we are finding in study after study is that resiliency - the ability to deal effectively with life’s demands and challenges - isn't simply a matter of luck. It is a matter of developing the right skills and assets.
The presenter is Dr. Larry Schanus, Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Schanus is currently working for the Department of Corrections at the Shakopee Women’s Prison (MCF-SHK). He also has a private practice and focuses on troubled teens and their families. Dr. Schanus’ professional experience also includes educational presentations and organizational consultations in the private sector.
Dr. Schanus has been teaching Resiliency Assets at MCF-SHK for the past three years. A recent study of discipline cases comparing general population offenders with Resiliency Asset students shows an overall decrease of discipline cases of at 3% in the general pop compared to 47% Resiliency Assets Class students.
