“My Voice Series” is created by Betalham B. in partnership with the Minnesota Second Chance Coalition. The series are designed to discuss prison impact, transitional phase, and what advocacy looks like when it is led by those directly impacted by the system. The goal is to create a brave space for system impacted panelist to share their stories.
Several impacted people will respond to questions about what it looks and feels like to transition from serving time to living in the community. They will share what has worked for them, was helpful and what was harmful or counterproductive. How are support professionals viewed, what does a supportive relationship look like and what things get in the way will be explored in this open conversation. Join us in our Brave Space!
Invitation to Brave Space
By: Micky ScottBey Jones
Together we will create brave space
Because there is no such thing as a “safe space”
We exist in the real world
We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.
In this space
We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world,
We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,
We call each other to more truth and love
We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.
We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.
We will not be perfect.
This space will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be
It will be our brave space together,
We will work on it side by side
