Minnesota Community Corrections Association Presents:
Criminal Prosecution of Selected Minnesota Tax Violations
Learn about tax systems and operations. This workshop will provide an overview of the criminal investigation and prosecuting of some of the most common tax crimes, how it impacts the criminal justice system, and how it impacts persons and businesses subject to prosecution.
General tax information covered will include basic filing obligations, residency related issues, basic business tax law and some special tax obligations. An overview of common tax crimes and scams will be provided including special tax violations (alcohol & tobacco), identity theft related scams, not filling, false filing, and failure to remit tax violations. Interaction between MCCA members and the presenter are encouraged. Also, covered will be tools available to corrections officials who want to see if their clients are complying with their tax obligations.
Presenter: Michael Morehead
Michael currently has six years experience as a Special Agent with the Minnesota Department of Revenue investigating tax crimes. He retired in late 2005 as a Commander after 28½ years with the St. Paul Police. Michael also has five years experience as a U.S. Federal Food and Drug Field Investigator. He currently has a law degree and has taught classes part-time at Metro State University.
