Surviving Prostitution & Sex Trafficking: Breaking Free
We will be discussing Prostitution and Sex Trafficking 101. The presentation will cover the different forms of Prostitution as well as the barriers one is faced with when trying to escape. The dynamics of Prostitution and Sex Trafficking will be explored as will the Domestic vs. International challenges. This workshop will provide a fundamental knowledge base of Prostitution/Sex Trafficking as well as essential resources that are available for survivors within the community.
Presenter: Joy Friedman
Joy Friedman knows firsthand the importance of the Breaking Free Women’s
Program. After being trafficked as a teenager and after 23 years of surviving “the life”, she was one of the first women to successfully complete the Breaking Free program. For the past 11 years Joy has worked for Breaking Free as a Case Manager, Outreach Specialist, Program Manager, policy Coordinator for the Offender’s Program (John’s School) and is a sought after public speaker. Joy has extensive experience in providing services to women who have been victimized in systems of prostitution. She has provided numerous trainings for the St. Paul/MPLS Police Departments, FBI, and the Hubert Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs to name a few. Joy has also told her story via videos for the U.S. Department of Humans services and Twin Cities Public Television (TPT).

Trainings are free to all current MCCA Members.
