Immunity to Change: Beyond the Barriers to Change
As participants in this program, we will:
Immunity to Change is based on the work of psychologist Robert Kagan PhD and Lisa Lahey, experts in adult learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The theory is based on invoking the body’s exquisite ability to ward off disease and invasion. “Our best efforts to change are routinely overwhelmed by forces within us.” We routinely work against Change that we have identified as beneficial to us. This workshop will help us understand our cognitive barriers to change from a personal perspective and help us to meet clients where they are.
Dr. BraVada Garrett- Akinsanya, Ph.D, L.P., CAC/BP Board Certified Diplomat/Fellow in African Centered/Black Psychology, Associate of Black Psychologists, Executive Director, African American Child Welfare institute & Founder, President – Brakins Consulting & Psychological Services; will help us understand Immunity to Change from a personal and client centered approach that is strength based, and culturally and racially responsive. Her dynamic hands on presentation will allow the corrections practitioners use of interventions to be more in line with a Cognitive Based Effective Communication Through the Use of Motivational Interviewing via a real life response to helping clients explore their own barriers to change.
