Deepening our Understandings of the LGBTA Communities
Description: This highly interactive presentation is designed to provide participants with a general understanding of common language used to describe LGBT communities; impacts of violence and common barriers to service often faced by LGBT crime victims; and, finally, how to create safety and support for all community members.
•1) Develop an understanding of homophobia, heterosexism and their relationship to other forms of oppression
•2) Develop an understanding of the words used to describe the community
•3) Identify myths and misconceptions regarding the community including developing an understanding regarding the prevalence of violence within the LGBT community
•4) Develop an understanding of common issues/barriers to reporting violence
•5) Develop an understanding of the specific service needs of the LGBT community
Online Registrations will be given first priority.
Trainings are free to all current MCCA members.
