Unfortunately due to low participation and resources , we are canceling the event that was scheduled for March 20, 2024. This is a major event for us and for people who are affected by the criminal legal system, and this decision wasn't made lightly.
Below is some important legislation to watch for the 2024 Session.
This provides a Ban the Box for housing applications, and limits how and when a landlord can consider a prospective tenant's housing application.
Too often when someone makes a plea in a criminal case they aren't aware of possible collateral consequences of specific offenses, and they don't find out that they are barred from employment or professional licenses until their applications have been turned down. This act ensured that a person knows what is at stake before they agree to a plea agreement or are convicted.
The Clean Slate Act was landmark legislation that was passed last session and will go into effect on January 1, 2025. This bill clarifies what offenses are eligible for automatic expungement and waiting periods.
